TINOS BEACHES

Apigania beach

Immediately after Agios Romanos we find, after a little trouble on the road, Apigania, a paradise for those who dislike organized beaches. After driving an 11 km dirt road and walking about 500 meters you will come across a coast with greenish waters and rocks sculpted by time and waves. Make sure, however, that you have the necessary things with you, especially shade due to the lack of trees.

Agios Romanos beach

Continuing to the northwest, we come across the beach of Agios Romanos, which takes its name from the homonymous church on the left end of the cove. A long sandy beach, quite sheltered from the wind, with an unobstructed view towards Syros, will impress you with its natural beauty. In addition, add the shade offered by the tamarinds. But there are also umbrellas and some beach bars.

Kantani beach

About 500 meters from Apigania, after climbing some rocks you will find yourself in Kantani. The landscape is truly idyllic and completely deserted, for diving away from prying eyes. The waters are shallow and crystal clear, however there is no shade except for a few tamarind trees, so you better be equipped with the necessary beach accessories.

Agios Petros beach

Nearby we find the beach of Agios Petros, a beautiful coast that is divided in two by a rock, with the homonymous church on top of it. It has fine sand and pebbles and relatively shallow waters. Among its assets is certainly the old wreck that many divers explore. The beach is not organized so don’t forget to bring the necessary supplies with you.

Kalyvia beach

Very close to Agios Petros is the beach of Kalyvia, the port of Kardiani. A crowded, exotic beach with all its features: sandy, with crystal clear waters and tamarisk trees that provide their precious shade. The beach bar offers moments of relaxation with cocktails and refreshing juices under the straw umbrellas.

Ysternia beach

Even further north, just below the village of Ysternia is a beautiful bay with an even more beautiful beach. Half sandy and half pebbly, it is very popular with water sports enthusiasts. Plus the wonderful view towards Syros, but also the picturesque taverns.

Agia Thalassa beach & Kavaroulko beach

On the northern coastline of Tinos, near Panormos (port of Pyrgos), is the beach of Agia Thalassa. A sandy, quiet and windless coast, ideal for swimming in the wonderful waters and relaxing in the shade provided by the tamarisk trees. Above the beach hangs the chapel of Agios Nikolaos of Thalassinos. If you walk ten minutes you will find yourself at Kavalourko beach, a lunar landscape with a small sandy beach and white, smooth rocks, where you will see the sculpted figure of the god Aeolus.

Kolympithra beach
(Mikri Ammos/Megali Ammos)

In the middle of the northern coastline of the island is Kolympithra beach, also known as Mikri Ammos and Megali Ammos. Mikri Ammos is more closed and protected from the winds, sandy and with deep water. Megali Ammos is more open and windswept and often has big waves (maybe that’s why it’s called California beach…). The islet opposite is called Dragon Island and if you have imagination you will notice that it looks like a reclining dragon. Kolympithra is organized and quite busy, especially Mikri Ammos, where there are beach bars and infrastructure for water sports.

Livada beach

At the northeastern end of Tinos, 6 kilometers by dirt road from the village of Steni, you will find one of the wildest and most isolated coasts of the island, Livada. With black sand and fine gravel, transparent waters that deepen sharply, it will impress you with its unadulterated beauty. Particularly prone to north winds, it is famous for its foaming waves. Add to the impressive scenery the strangely shaped rocks that are scattered around. Wild goats, ducks, turtles, fish live in the Livada wetland, and migratory birds pass by.

Santa Margarita beach

Descending to the south, on the east coast of the island, we find the beach of Santa Margarita, another paradise for lovers of seclusion. There you will leave civilization behind and enjoy the sandy coast, the crystal waters and the blue-green seabed. If the sun burns you, you can seek the shade offered by the tamarisk trees. On the hill above the beach dominates the Catholic chapel of Our Lady of the Angels. Just be careful on the road because the access is not one of the easiest.

Pahia Ammos beach

Moving further south, about 10 kilometers from Chora, and continuing to seek peace, we reach Pachia Ammos. The name says it all, as the golden sand dunes will remind you of something out of the desert. Its waters are relatively shallow, particularly turbulent when strong winds blow.

Agios Sostis beach

Returning to the southern coastline of Tinos we will find, at a distance of about 5.5 kilometers from Chora, the beach of Agios Sostis. This is a particularly beautiful coast, although quite crowded. Its relatively shallow waters are famous for their purity. The tamarisk trees that reach almost to the beach are ideal for those who don’t like sunbathing, although the beach also has sunbeds and umbrellas.

Agios Fokas beach

Approaching Tinos Town again, 2 kilometers east you will find the beach of Agios Fokas. It is the longest coast of the island, as it reaches 3 kilometers in length. The setting is familiar: sand with scattered pebbles, relatively shallow water and tamarind trees and an unobstructed view towards the island of Delos. It is particularly popular and naturally organized, with plenty of umbrellas and sunbeds, but also cafes, restaurants and taverns. Very close to the beach you can visit the archaeological site of Vryokastro, where the ruins of the island’s prehistoric acropolis are preserved.

Kionia beach

About three kilometers from the island’s capital in a northwesterly direction is Kionia beach. It is a sufficiently cosmopolitan beach, with sand and pebbles, blue-green waters but also many hotels, rentals and taverns. If you prefer a more sheltered spot head to three small coves at the end of the beach after the rocks. In the area is the archeological site of the same name, with the temple of Poseidon and Amphitrite.
